Meet Sabine
*Cue a distant accordion playing La vie en Rose* I developed this style when I came across a trove of old Parisian postcards in a vintage shop and was totally inspired by some of the lettering I saw. I love the imperfections of this style, and how it really doesn’t feel like polished, traditional calligraphy. She feels like a style you’d find in a book like Madeline in the illustrations of Ludwig Bememlans or maybe it reminds you of an old French painter’s signature in the corner of their painting. I just love it! I do this style with a brush and embrace all the different variations the paint makes, as well. This style is great in a watercolor suite and definitely has a chill energy, feeling effortless, and non-conforming to the “trendier” styles out there. In case you’re interested, Sabine is named after one of my favorite characters in Star Wars. (She’s not my absolute favorite, but she has the frenchiest name!)
